    Description

RELIC Reliquary SAINT MAXIMILIAN KOLBE Poland Polish Martyr Catholic Jesus -  Beard Relic
Authentic sacred relic of Saint Maximilian Kolbe.  It is written in Polish, his native tongue.  On the front is a very pensive photo of the saint shortly before he was arrested and killed in Auchwitz for being a Catholic priest.
    It reads in Polish:
"Zdobuc caty swiat dla Chrystusa przez Niepokalana.  Sw. Maksymilian Maria Kolbe 1894-1941. Relikwia pochodzi z otarcia materialu o wlosy z btody".
    Translated into English it reads
    :
"Conquer the whole world for Christ through the Immaculate Virgin".
    Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe 1894-1941.
    The relic comes from rubbing
the habit material with hair from the beard
    "
    .
    Measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/8"
Saint Maximilian was killed in Auchwitz Concentration Camp in 1941.
Nazi camp rules dictated that 10 prisoners be killed for every 1 prisoner who escaped.
In 1941, an inmate escaped and 10 innocent men were chosen for death.
Saint Maximilian volunteered to trade places with one man, Francis Gajonowiczek, as he had a wife and children.
Maximilian and the other 9 men were locked in a room and
not given food or water for 3 weeks.
The other prisoners died one by one, but the Saint refused to die, singing hymns and praying for his captors continually.  After 3 weeks he was given a fatal poisonous injection of acid and murdered.
His body was burned and the ashes scattered.
The only first class relics are few beard hairs that were collected from his brush in his
    monastery's
    dormitory
cell after his imprisonment and death.
He was declared Blessed in 1971 by Pope Paul VI, and canonized by Saint John Paul II in 1982.
Ive included a photo of an icon showing the Saint's Franciscan habit with his Auschwitz Concentration Camp uniform and the red triangle with a P signifying his crime was being a Priest!  (It is not included in the auction, but for reference only)
