    Description

Early 1970's (?) Gibson-style Explorer Set-neck electric guitar == This one's a bit of a mystery -- the set-neck and body are very nice, and are solid woods, probably Sen  with a mahog repaint --  but the original electronics (neck pickup and wiring harness) are relatively primitive -- in fact the pickup looks like a typical early 70's brass bottom Faux-humbucker single coil -- the harmonica bridge was copied from a Gibson design introduced in 1971 == A number of Japanese brands had an explorer model or two -- however, all I could find (Greco, Ibanez, Aria, etc) had a logo positioned like Gibson at the tip of headstock beginning at the B string tuner -- and although the logo was sanded off this guitar it was obviously positioned lower between from the D string tuner up to the B tuner == Or it could be 1980's Korean (Samick/Cort) but the comments about the logo placement still apply == Anyway -- this is a good player-grade guitar which could be really nice with a bit of work (i.e. new pickups/wiring/set-up/refin) == Body and Neck have been refinished kinda sloppily with sanding marks/finish flaws throughout -- but actually doesn't look that bad == Bridge pickup has been replaced, tuners are also replacements, missing back control cover == Electronics working, pots a bit uneven/touchy == Action is 3/32" at the 12th fret E's, very light fret wear == Weigh only 8 lbs. (approx) == Plays and sounds good as-is -- I was surprised -- and with lots of potential == Includes original case that sure looks like an late 60's/early 70's MIJ case == I'm leaning toward this being MIJ -- it's definitely not 1990's or later (Epiphone etc) -- and the high quality woodwork combined with cheaper electronics was typical of the early "Copy era" ==
