Description
"Lawsuit Era" guitars range from terrific to utterly horribly copies of American guitars, but this one is a particularly nice Les Paul copy. Similar in build quality and playability to similar ones from the same era by Burny, Ibanez andSupposedly, this particular Hondo model was built in the Tokai/Matsumoku (Burny) factory in Japan in about 1979-1981, based on Wiki descriptions. It has no serial number, so dating more tightly is more difficult.
First off, it's no featherweight. It's very solid, tight and stable, with a set neck and upgraded tuners that stay in tune well. It has WAY more tone, muscle and bite than most of the bolt-on LPs that you see, including some from Hondo. This is a player's guitar in every sense of the word. Excellent flame on the honeyburst top. T

Looks like it had a pickguard once, but it's long gone.
There's one odd discolored spot on the upper bout binding, but the binding is in good shape overall.
It appears the neck and heel were originally carved from two pieces rather than from a single neck block, perhaps to reduce manufacturing costs. Anyway, there's a finish crack at that spot on the heel, but it's cosmetic and presents no structural issue whatsoever that I can see.
